1. at first; in the beginning

   起初我不同意，但后来改变了主意。 qǐchū wǒ bùtóng yì dàn hòulái gǎibiàn le zhǔyì — At first I disagreed, but later changed my mind.

2. first (in order or sequence)

   这是他人生中的初次演出。 zhè shì tā rénshēng zhōng de chūcì yǎnchū — This is his first performance in life.

3. junior; basic; primary (level)

   初级课程适合零基础的学生。 chūjí kèchéng shìhé líng jīchǔ de xuéshēng — Beginner-level courses are suitable for students with no foundation.
