出门 — chūmén

1. to go out; to leave the house (temporarily)

   我现在要出门了。 wǒ xiànzài yào chūmén le — I'm going out now.

2. to leave home (permanently or for work/study elsewhere)

   他三年前就出门到别的城市工作了。 tā sānnián qián jiù chūmén dào biéde chéngshì gōngzuò le — He left home three years ago to work in another city.

3. to go on a journey; to set out on a trip

   我们下个月出门旅行。 wǒmen xiàgèyuè chūmén lǚxíng — We're going on a trip next month.

4. away from home; not at home (stative/adverbial)

   他常年出门在外，家里很少见到他。 tā chángnián chūménzàiwài jiālǐ hěnshǎo jiàndào tā — He's been away from home for years; we rarely see him at home.

5. (of a woman) to get married (literary/older use)

   在旧时，姑娘们多在二十岁左右出门。 zài jiùshí gūniáng men duō zài èrshísuì zuǒyòu chūmén — In old times, girls often got married at around twenty.
