凭 — píng

1. to lean against; to rest on (physically)

   他把自行车凭在墙上。 tā bǎ zì xíng chē píng zài qiáng shàng 。 — He leaned the bicycle against the wall.

2. to rely on; to depend on; to trust in

   你不能只凭感觉做决定。 nǐ bù néng zhǐ píng gǎn jué zuò jué dìng 。 — You can't make a decision based only on feeling.

3. on the basis of; according to; by virtue of

   凭合同，你有权要求退款。 píng hé tóng ， nǐ yǒu quán yāo qiú tuì kuǎn 。 — On the basis of the contract, you have the right to request a refund.

4. no matter (how, what, etc); regardless of

   凭他怎样努力，也不一定能成功。 píng tā zěn yàng nǔ lì ， yě bù yí dìng néng chéng gōng 。 — No matter how hard he tries, he may not succeed.

5. proof; evidence; voucher

   请出示凭证以便报销。 qǐng chū shì píng zhèng yǐ biàn bào xiāo 。 — Please show the voucher as proof for reimbursement.
