凑 — còu

1. to gather together; to pool or collect (money, resources, people)

   大家凑点钱给他买个礼物吧。 dàjiā còu diǎn qián gěi tā mǎi gè lǐwù ba — Let's all chip in some money to buy him a gift.

2. to happen by chance; to come together unexpectedly

   凑巧我也要去那儿，可以一起走。 còuqiǎo wǒ yě yào qù nàér kěyǐ yìqǐ zǒu — It so happens I'm going there too; we can go together.

3. to move close to; to come up to (someone or something physically)

   他凑到窗边看外面的景色。 tā còudào chuāng biān kàn wàimiàn de jǐngsè — He moved up to the window to look at the view outside.

4. to take advantage of an opportunity; to avail oneself of (a situation)

   他趁热闹凑上去抢着发言。 tā chèn rènào còushàngqù qiǎng zhe fāyán — He took advantage of the commotion and pushed forward to speak.
