1. to provide for the elderly (e.g., care or financial support for family members)

   很多家庭选择由子女来养老。 hěnduō jiātíng xuǎnzé yóu zǐnǚ lái yǎnglǎo — Many families choose for their children to look after (provide for) their elderly parents.

2. to enjoy a life in retirement; to spend one's retirement years (living comfortably)

   他们退休后打算去乡下养老。 tāmen tuìxiū hòu dǎsuàn qù xiāngxià yǎnglǎo — After retiring they plan to go to the countryside to enjoy their retirement.
