兜 — dōu

1. pocket; small bag (clothing)

   这件外套有两个兜。 zhèjiàn wàitào yǒu liǎnggè dōu — This coat has two pockets.

2. bag; sack; pouch

   他随身带着一个小兜装零钱。 tā suíshēndài zhe yígè xiǎo dōu zhuāng língqián — He carries a small pouch for change.

3. to wrap up; to put into a bag

   请把这些蔬菜兜起来带走。 qǐng bǎ zhèxiē shūcài dōu qǐlái dàizǒu — Please wrap these vegetables up to take away.

4. to move in a circle; to go around

   小孩在操场上兜来兜去。 xiǎohái zài cāochǎngshàng dōu lái dōu qù — The children are running around the playground.

5. to canvas or solicit (support, votes, business)

   候选人正在街上兜选民。 hòuxuǎnrén zhèngzài jiēshàng dōu xuǎnmín — The candidate is canvassing voters on the street.

6. to take responsibility for; to assume charge of

   这笔费用由我来兜。 zhèbǐ fèiyòng yóu wǒ lái dōu — I'll cover this expense.

7. to disclose in detail; to relate fully

   把事情的经过都兜清楚再讲。 bǎ shìqíng de jīngguò dōu dōu qīngchǔ zài jiǎng — Make sure to explain the whole sequence of events clearly before speaking.

8. combat armor (old term)

   出土的青铜兜保存得很完整。 chūtǔ de qīngtóng dōu bǎocún dé hěn wánzhěng — The unearthed bronze armor was preserved in very good condition.
