2. to despise; to look down on

   他傲视下属，从不虚心。 tā àoshì xiàshǔ cóng bùxū xīn — He looks down on his subordinates and is never humble.

3. unyielding; defiant

   她傲然拒绝了所有妥协。 tā àorán jùjué le suǒyǒu tuǒxié — She proudly refused all compromises.
