停顿 — tíngdùn

1. to halt; to stop briefly

   车在路中间突然停顿了。 chē zài lù zhōngjiān tūrán tíngdùn le — The car suddenly came to a stop in the middle of the road.

2. a pause (in speech or action); a break in continuity

   他讲这句话时有一个短暂的停顿。 tā jiǎng zhè jù huà shí yǒu yígè duǎnzàn de tíngdùn — He made a short pause when saying that sentence.
