1. to do; to perform an action; to carry out

   你现在在做什么呢？ nǐ xiànzài zài zuò shénme ne — What are you doing right now?

2. to make; to produce; to create (a thing)

   她做了一个蛋糕。 tā zuò le yígè dàngāo — She made a cake.

3. to write; to compose (a text, song, etc.)

   他正在做一首新诗。 tā zhèngzài zuò yīshǒu xīnshī — He is composing a new poem.

4. to hold (an event); to organize

   公司打算下周做一次年会。 gōngsī dǎsuàn xiàzhōu zuò yīcì nián huì — The company plans to hold an annual meeting next week.

5. to act as; to serve as; to be used for (a role or function)

   这张桌子可以做床。 zhè zhāng zhuōzi kěyǐ zuò chuáng — This table can serve as a bed.

6. to assume (an air or manner); to pretend; to act like

   他总喜欢做专家的样子。 tā zǒng xǐhuān zuò zhuānjiā de yàngzi — He always likes to act like an expert.

7. to become (in relationships): to make/become husband and wife, friends, etc.; to be (a certain type of person)

   他们俩做了多年的好朋友。 tāmen liǎ zuò le duōnián de hǎo péngyǒu — The two of them have been close friends for many years.
