偏 — piān

1. to lean; to slant; to tilt

   这张桌子有点儿偏，放在门口会挡路。 zhè zhāng zhuōzi yǒudiǎnér piān fàngzài ménkǒu huì dǎnglù — This table is a bit tilted; placing it by the door will block the way.

2. oblique; biased; prejudiced (not straight or neutral)

   他的报道有点儿偏，缺乏客观性。 tā de bàodào yǒudiǎnér piān quēfá kèguānxìng — His report is somewhat biased and lacks objectivity.

3. to deviate from the average; (used with adjectives to mean) rather; slightly (e.g., 偏高, 偏低)

   今天气温偏高，出门别忘了防晒。 jīntiān qìwēn piān gāo chūmén biéwàngle fángshài — The temperature is rather high today; don't forget sun protection when going out.

4. stubbornly; contrary to expectations; (doing something) against the norm

   他偏要晚上练琴，不顾邻居休息。 tā piānyào wǎnshàng liàn qín bùgù línjū xiūxī — He insists on practicing piano at night, disregarding the neighbors' rest.
