1. to assume; to suppose (take something as given for the sake of argument or calculation)

   我们先假定市场需求保持不变，来计算利润。 wǒmen xiān jiǎdìng shìchǎngxūqiú bǎochí bùbiàn lái jìsuàn lìrùn — Let's first assume that market demand remains unchanged and calculate the profit.

2. assumption; hypothesis

   这个模型的假定需要进一步验证。 zhège móxíng de jiǎdìng xūyào jìnyíbù yànzhèng — The assumptions of this model need further verification.

3. supposed; so-called (used to mark something as assumed or labelled)

   这些所谓的专家的假定并不总是可靠的。 zhèxiē suǒwèi de zhuānjiā de jiǎdìng bìng bù zǒngshì kěkào de — The so‑called experts' suppositions are not always reliable.
