1. to decorate; to embellish

   她修了一下房间，看起来更漂亮了。 tā xiū le yīxià fángjiān kànqǐlái gèng piàoliàng le — She touched up the room and it looked even prettier.

2. to repair; to mend; to build/construct (repair/restore meaning)

   师傅修了两天才把车修好。 shīfù xiū le liǎngtiān cái bǎ chē xiūhǎo — It took the mechanic two days to fix the car.

3. to write; to compose (literary or technical works)

   古人花数年修一部史书。 gǔrén huā shùnián xiū yībù shǐshū — The ancients spent years compiling a history book.

4. to cultivate; to improve oneself; to study; to take (a class) (as in 修习)

   他在大学里修了三门选修课。 tā zài dàxué lǐ xiū le sānmén xuǎnxiūkè — He took three elective courses at university.

5. surname Xiu

   修先生是我们系的新教授。 xiū xiānshēng shì wǒmen xì de xīn jiàoshòu — Mr. Xiu is the new professor in our department.
