1. to keep; to retain (something)

   请把这些文件保留在档案里。 qǐng bǎ zhèxiē wénjiàn bǎoliú zài dàngàn lǐ — Please keep these documents in the file/archive.

2. to retain (a quality, feature, or right); to continue to have

   该公司保留最终解释权。 gāi gōngsī bǎoliú zuìzhōng jiěshìquán — The company reserves the final right of interpretation.

3. to have reservations (about something); to be reluctant to fully agree

   对你的提议我有点保留。 duì nǐ de tíyì wǒ yǒudiǎn bǎoliú — I have some reservations about your proposal.

4. to hold back (from saying something); to refrain from expressing fully

   他说话的时候总是有所保留。 tā shuōhuà de shíhòu zǒngshì yǒusuǒ bǎoliú — He always holds back when he speaks.

5. to put aside for later; to reserve (e.g., seats, tickets, items)
