   在困难时，他常常依靠朋友的帮助。 zài kùnnán shí tā chángcháng yīkào péngyǒu de bāngzhù — In hard times, he often depends on friends' help.

2. to comply with; to follow (sb's advice or orders)

   士兵必须依从指挥官的命令。 shìbīng bìxū yīcóng zhǐhuīguān de mìnglìng — Soldiers must comply with the commander’s orders.

3. according to; in the light of (a rule, standard, or information)

   依照合同，双方应在三十天内完成付款。 yīzhào hétóng shuāngfāng yīng zài sānshítiān nèi wánchéng fùkuǎn — According to the contract, both parties should complete payment within thirty days.
