使命 — shǐmìng

1. mission; a long-term task or calling to which one devotes oneself

   他的使命是改善农村的教育条件。 tā de shǐmìng shì gǎishàn nóngcūn de jiàoyù tiáojiàn — His mission is to improve education conditions in the countryside.

2. mission (as in diplomatic or religious delegation)

   外交使团把代表团称为正式的外交使命。 wàijiāoshǐtuán bǎ dàibiǎotuán chēngwéi zhèngshì de wàijiāo shǐmìng — The diplomatic corps called the delegation an official diplomatic mission.
