亮 — liàng

1. bright; well-lit; having much light

   这个房间很亮，下午不需要开灯。 zhège fángjiān hěnliàng xiàwǔ bù xūyào kāidēng — This room is very bright; in the afternoon you don't need to turn on the light.

2. to shine; to give off light; to flash

   远处的灯亮了几下，像是在闪光。 yuǎnchù de dēngliàngle jǐxià xiàngshì zài shǎnguāng — The light in the distance flashed a few times, like it was blinking.

3. loud and clear; plainly; conspicuously

   他说话很亮，大家都能听清楚。 tā shuōhuà hěnliàng dàjiā dōu néng tīng qīngchǔ — He speaks loudly and clearly; everyone can hear him.

4. to show (e.g. a passport); to make public or reveal (one's views, information)

   入境时请把护照亮出来接受检查。 rùjìng shí qǐng bǎ hùzhào liàng chūlái jiēshòu jiǎnchá — When entering the country please show your passport for inspection.
