交 — jiāo

1. to hand over; to deliver

   请把文件交给我。 qǐng bǎ wénjiàn jiāogěi wǒ — Please hand the documents to me.

2. to pay (money)

   他昨天交了学费。 tā zuótiān jiāo le xuéfèi — He paid the tuition yesterday.

3. to turn over; to flip

   他把手里的纸牌翻交给下一位。 tā bǎ shǒulǐ de zhǐpái fān jiāogěi xià yīwèi — He turned the cards over and passed them to the next person.

4. to make friends; to交朋友 (to build social ties)

   他喜欢交新朋友。 tā xǐhuān jiāo xīn péngyǒu — He likes to make new friends.

5. (of lines) to intersect; to cross

   这两条路在市中心交汇。 zhè liǎngtiáolù zài shìzhōngxīn jiāohuì — These two roads intersect in the city center.
