   天命乃人所不能违。 tiānmìng nǎi rén suǒ bùnéng wéi — Heaven's mandate is something people cannot defy.

2. thus; so; therefore; thereupon; then; only (literary)

   他日事休，乃可从头再来。 tā rì shì xiū nǎi kě cóngtóuzàilái — Let the matter rest for another day; then it can be started over.
