1. to take charge of; to manage or direct; to be responsible for running something

   他负责主持这个项目的日常工作。 tā fùzé zhǔchí zhège xiàngmù dì rìcháng gōngzuò — He is responsible for managing the project's daily work.

2. to preside over (a meeting, ceremony) or to host (a TV/radio program); to act as master of ceremonies

   她将主持今晚的颁奖典礼。 tā jiāng zhǔchí jīnwǎn de bānjiǎngdiǎnlǐ — She will preside over/host tonight's awards ceremony.

3. to uphold; to stand for (justice, fairness, principles)

   法官应当主持公道，维护社会正义。 fǎguān yīngdāng zhǔchígōngdào wéihù shèhuì zhèngyì — A judge should uphold fairness and protect social justice.
