主动 — zhǔdòng

1. to take the initiative; to do something of one's own accord

   她主动提出帮忙解决这个问题。 tā zhǔdòng tíchū bāngmáng jiějué zhège wèntí — She took the initiative to offer help solving this problem.

2. spontaneous; active (as opposed to passive)

   在讨论中他表现得很主动。 zài tǎolùn zhōng tā biǎoxiàn dé hěn zhǔdòng — He behaved very proactively in the discussion.

3. drive (of gears and shafts etc)

   这个装置的主动齿轮连接到电机。 zhège zhuāngzhì de zhǔdòng chǐlún liánjiē dào diànjī — The driving gear of this device is connected to the motor.
