1. silk; (raw) silk thread

   这块布是用真丝做的，有很好的手感。 zhèkuài bù shì yòng zhēnsī zuò de yǒu hěn hǎo de shǒugǎn — This piece of cloth is made of real silk and has a very nice feel.

2. a thin, thread-like filament or strand; filamentary thing

   蜘蛛网上挂着一丝露珠。 zhīzhūwǎng shàng guà zhe yīsī lùzhū — A drop of dew hung on a thread of the spiderweb.

3. thin shreds or julienne strips (culinary usage)

   把胡萝卜切成丝，和青菜一起炒。 bǎ húluóbo qièchéng sī hé qīngcài yìqǐ chǎo — Cut the carrot into thin shreds and stir-fry with greens.

4. classifier: a trace/a tiny bit (of smoke, doubt, hope, etc.) — e.g. 一丝
