1. cannot bear; cannot stand; be unable to endure

   我实在不堪忍受他的抱怨。 wǒ shízài bùkān rěnshòu tā de bàoyuàn — I really cannot bear his complaining.

2. utterly; extremely (used for emphasis)

   那场灾难的后果不堪设想。 nàchǎng zāinàn de hòuguǒ bùkānshèxiǎng — The consequences of that disaster are unimaginable (utterly terrible).
