1. no; not (negation particle used to negate verbs, adjectives, or other predicates)

   他叫我去，但我不去。 tā jiào wǒ qù dàn wǒ bù qù — He asked me to go, but I will not go.

2. not so; used to deny or contradict a statement

   他说他会来，不会的。 tā shuō tā huìlái búhuì de — He said he'd come — he won't.

3. (bound form) not; un- (prefix forming antonyms)

   这件事完全不可能发生。 zhèjiàn shì wánquán bùkě néng fāshēng — This is completely impossible.
