下行 — xiàxíng

1. (of trains) to go 'down' — i.e. travel away from the capital; a down (descending) train

   这趟下行列车十分钟后到站。 zhè tàng xiàxínglièchē shífēnzhōng hòu dào zhàn — The down train will arrive at the station in ten minutes.

2. to travel downstream (of river boats)

   货船准备在潮水退去后下行。 huòchuán zhǔnbèi zài cháoshuǐ tuìqù hòu xiàxíng — The cargo ship is preparing to travel downstream after the tide ebbs.

3. to issue or circulate (a document) to lower bureaucratic levels; to pass down (orders, notices)

   市里已经把最新版规定下行到各区办事处。 shìlǐ yǐjīng bǎ zuìxīnbǎn guīdìng xiàxíng dào gèqū bànshìchù — The city has already circulated the latest regulations down to the district offices.

4. vertical (of writing on the page), proceeding from top to bottom

   古书常用下行的版式排列文字。 gǔshū chángyòng xiàxíng de bǎnshì páiliè wénzì — Ancient books often use a vertical (top-to-bottom) layout for text.
