下来 — xiàlai

1. to come down; to descend

   请从楼上下来。 qǐng cóng lóushàng xiàlái — Please come down from upstairs.

2. (aspect particle) indicates a completed action (colloquial)

   东西都收拾下来了。 dōngxī dōu shōushí xiàlái le — Everything has been packed away.

3. (after a verb of motion) indicates movement downward and toward the speaker

   他走下来跟我们打招呼。 tā zǒu xiàlái gēn wǒmen dǎzhāohū — He came down and greeted us.

4. (grammatical) indicates continuation from the past toward the present (progressive/resultative nuance)

   这些年来，他一直坚持下来了。 zhèxiēniánlái tā yìzhí jiānchí xiàlái le — Over these years, he has kept on going (from the past until now).

5. to be harvested (of crops); to be gathered

   今年的稻子已经下来了。 jīnnián de dàozi yǐjīng xiàlái le — This year's rice has already been harvested.

6. to be over (of a period of time)

   一年下来，他攒了不少钱。 yīnián xiàlái tā zǎn le bùshǎo qián — Over the course of a year, he saved up quite a bit of money.

7. to go among the masses (said of leaders); to mix with the people

   领导下来了，亲自到村里视察。 lǐngdǎo xiàlái le qīnzì dào cūnlǐ shìchá — The leader came down among the people and personally inspected the village.
