上门 — shàngmén

1. to drop in; to visit (go to someone's home)

   他昨天上门看我，带来了水果。 tā zuótiān shàngmén kàn wǒ dàilái le shuǐguǒ — He dropped by to see me yesterday and brought fruit.

2. to lock a door (dialectal/archaic)

   睡前别忘了把门上门。 shuì qián biéwàngle bǎmén shàngmén — Don't forget to lock the door before going to bed.

3. (of a shop) to close (for the day)

   因为下雨，水果摊早早就上门了。 yīnwèi xiàyǔ shuǐguǒtān zǎozǎo jiù shàngmén le — Because of the rain, the fruit stall closed early.

4. to go and live with one's wife's family; to become a member of the wife's household

   结婚后他上门到了妻子家，帮忙照顾老人。 jiéhūn hòu tā shàngmén dào le qīzǐ jiā bāngmáng zhàogù lǎorén — After marrying he went to live with his wife's family and helped care for the elders.
