   村里只有三个丁在务农。 cūnlǐ zhǐyǒu sāngè dīng zài wùnóng — There are only three adult men working the fields in the village.

2. the fourth of the 10 Heavenly Stems (tiangan); used like '4' or 'D' in ordering

   在古籍中，丁对应天干的第四位。 zài gǔjí zhōng dīng duìyìng tiāngān de dìsìwèi — In ancient texts, ding corresponds to the fourth Heavenly Stem.

3. small cube of meat or vegetable (a dice-shaped piece used in cooking)

   把胡萝卜切成小丁加入汤里。 bǎ húluóbo qiè chéngxiǎodīng jiārù tāng lǐ — Cut the carrot into small dice and add them to the soup.
