一直 — yīzhí

1. straight (in a straight line)

   他一直向前走，直到看到桥为止。 tā yìzhí xiàngqiánzǒu zhídào kàndào qiáo wéizhǐ — He walked straight ahead until he saw the bridge.

2. continuously; without interruption

   她一直在等你的电话。 tā yìzhí zài děng nǐ de diànhuà — She has been waiting for your call continuously.

3. always; all along (habitual state)

   他一直很友好，对每个人都很礼貌。 tā yìzhí hěn yǒuhǎo duì měigè rén dōu hěn lǐmào — He has always been friendly and polite to everyone.

4. all the way through; throughout (to the end)

   比赛一直进行了两个小时才结束。 bǐsài yìzhí jìnxíng le liǎnggè xiǎoshí cái jiéshù — The match went on all the way for two hours before it ended.
