一定 — yīdìng

1. surely; certainly; must (expressing strong certainty or obligation)

   你一定会成功的。 nǐ yídìng huì chénggōng de — You will certainly succeed.

2. necessarily (not always — often used in negative constructions: 不一定)

   他不一定会来，别等他太久。 tā bù yídìng huìlái bié děng tā tàijiǔ — He won't necessarily come; don't wait for him too long.

3. fixed; certain; given (a particular degree, amount, or condition)

   在一定程度上，我同意你的看法。 zài yídìng chéngdù shàng wǒ tóngyì nǐ de kànfǎ — To a certain extent, I agree with your view.
